Motorola ships combo cable modem/Wi-Fi access point
Motorola yesterday announced a new cable modem that also functions as a Wi-Fi access point, Ethernet router, and wireless print server and firewall. The new cable modem, the SBG1000, sells for $350 and demonstrates the trend in the consumer electronics sector of using Wi-Fi as a means to wirelessly-enable home electronics devices. More and more manufacturers are building Wi-Fi into their consumer electronics offerings. Wireless is now the dominant force in consumer electronics, with mobile phones representing the largest single segment of the industry and new technologies, like Wi-Fi, driving the growth of broadband.
